How this list is made

FireSignal processes observations from the VIIRS and MODIS satellites (NASA FIRMS), Meteosat and MTG (EUMETSAT LSA SAF) and Sentinel-3 (Copernicus). Detections close together are merged into one fire. A fire appears here while it is still active and has at least 3 detections. The area is the heat zone based on the satellite's pixel size: an upper bound, not an official fire perimeter. Official figures from fire services or authorities can be considerably lower.

FireSignal is not an alarm system or an emergency service. Satellites see heat, not fire; cloud and smoke can hide a fire. In case of danger, always follow official channels and call 112.
